There is a site on the SD Dept of Health page that indexes vital records. The site address is http://www.state.sd.us/applications/PH14Over100BirthRec/index.asp . - I typed in the name Louis Young and it gave me two names, Louis Young and Louisa Bell Young. The info for Louis is: ...Birth Information for LOUIS YOUNG ...(State File Number: 12484) ...File Date: 10/03/1906 ...Sex: Male ...Birth Date: 09/29/1906 ...City/County: YANKTON ...Mother's Name: JENETTE WILLIAMS ...Father's Name: W YOUNG ===== I typed in Louisa as well and got this data: ...Birth Information for LOUISA BELL YOUNG ...(State File Number: 455602) ...File Date: 05/06/1937 ...Sex: Female ...Birth Date: 03/21/1888 ...City/County: GRANT ...Mother's Name: ANNA ELIZA CRAWFORD ...Father's Name: JED GEORGE YOUNG ===== Obviously, Louisa is not who you are looking for but Louis is. I would suggest going to the DOH site and looking for the others. - Also, South Dakota did a "state" census every ten years, in between the fed census'. They started in 1885 though I understand that this census is not complete. They kept it up to 1945 and all are readable. I read some of it MANY (20?) years ago, at the SD Historical Society (in Pierre...capitol) and at that time all was written on recipe card, in pencil, one person per card. I don't know what they have done with them since but you can get the Hist Soc home page by typing in "South Dakota Historical Society" on google (or equiv). Ask them about the state census. - And, for what it is worth, Iowa did a state census too. Notify Administrator about this message?
