Need help in the trail of William Sentell, first born son of Sgt. Sam and Nancy Sentell. He was in Cambell County, Ga in 1830, I believe he is the William who relocated to Tallapoosa County in the early 1830's. A William Sentell was commissioned in the late fall of 1836 to construct the first couthouse of Tallapoosa County, William was paid $50 to build a 20' by 20' log cabin southeast of the current courthouse to be used as a temporary courthouse while construction of the first permenant courthouse could be completed. His family was living about 4 miles north of this site in Dadeville. He homesteaded a fourty acre tract which is dated Aug 5, 1837 (doc #5261). John H. Broadnax was on the committee appointed by state legislature to pick the county seat and he was also the person who surveyed the town of Dadeville, completeing his survey on April 28, 1836. The index to Volunteer Soldiers in the Indian Wars 1815-1858 states that the following served in "Broadnax's Company of Ala. Volunteers" : Abner Sentell, private, William Sentell, private, Nathan Sentell, private. Abner B. Sentell married Martha Ofield in Tallapoosa County on June 26, 1837 (Bk 1 pg 20). William is found in the 1840 census of Talladega County with 9 people in the house. Elizabeth Sentell married James Womack in there in May 10, 1845 and Nancy M. Sentell married Levi E Peoples there on Jan. 25, 1847. We know that Nancy Sentell Peoples is the daugher of William's younger brother Martin Sentell who had died in July 1832 in Walton Co, Ga. She is also went by her middle name Mahaley and lived out her life with her mother and Levi in Clay County, her brother Samuel Jackson Sentell also lived near by. The next record found on a William Sentell is in the 1850 census of Pickins County, Ala where he is 70 years old living with his 55 year old wife Sara and daughters Mary(22) and Colostum (20). 30 year old Nathan Sentell is living next door with wife Elvira (26) and James (1) his son. William is still living in the 1860 census but does not appear in the 1870 census. "The Heritage of Pickens County, Ala" contains a family history from this point that take you up to the Sentell's still living in Pickens County today.
