I am trying to find the parents of Rev Henry Shewell, my great, great, great grandfather. He was born June 13, 1765 in Greenwich N. J., Hunterdon Co. He married Mercy Hazen & died in Rootstown, Ohio, Sept. 2, 1874. He lived with William Shewell in Lebanon, NJ in 1790. I strongly suspect the Wm Shewell was his father, but possibly a brother. He married Mercy Hazen, Aug 3, 1790. Mercy was the youngest child of a prominent Loyalist family from Hacketstown, NJ. I believe this Wm Shewell moved to Easton, Pa after Henry was married. There is a Shewell genealogy written in the 1890s, which lists a Wm Shewell b Jan. 11, 1733 & died on an unknown date, unmarried. His parents were Robt Shewell & Elizabeth Barton. There is reason to believe they were also Loyalists. Can anyone help me put this puzzle together. I think the 1890 Shewell genealogy was wrong in this respect. They didnt know his date of death & assumed he was unmarried.
