They were orphaned and raised by their maternal grandmother Sarah Lister. George Huse's son, George William, said that they were members of the "Brethren" Church. There were supposedly 2 Shiner brothers who came from the old country two or three generations early. One went to Texas. I think George Huse Shiner's parents were George Shiner and Rachel Lister.
