It's great to hear from another member of the SHIREY family. I descend from Michael's son Isaac. How do you fit in?
Michael is a son of George and Catherine SHIREY. George and Catherine had seven children and resided in Shrewsbury Twp, York Co from as early as 1787 when they had their second son baptized at St. Peter's (Yellow) Reformed church in Shrewsbury Twp (now Springfield Twp), York Co. Based on census records, George was born between 1760-1765 and died about 1831 without a will. I have copies of the Orphans Court documents filed in York County that describing the administration of his estate ... these records identify his children by name, and also some of the grandchildren.
Just this summer at the family reunion, I was given an old binder that included the minutes from the very first SHIREY reunions and also some information on the children of Isaac and Sarah HANES SHIREY. This is also where I learned the names of both of Isaac's brothers ... we had speculated that John William was a brother because he was living in Isaac's household according to the 1850 census.
According to a genealogy included with the old reunion minutes there was also an Eva SHIREY (b 1816) who married Jacob ANSTINE ... their son Jacob Shirey ANSTINE (b 1850) visited Levi SHIREY (b 1851), son of Isaac SHIREY around 1937 ("It was the first time they had met since they were little boys and they were then in their late eighties.") I'll bet this Eva SHIREY is the oldest child of Michael and Maria SHIREY as according to census records they had a daughter born between 1815-1820 ... that would make Jacob Shirey ANSTINE and Levi SHIREY first cousins.
What more do you know about Sarah E. A. SHIREY (d 8.27.82)? She must have been born between 1820-1830. Did she ever marry?
According to my records, I have only ten children for John William SHIREY but I do believe that I heard that there were more. Can you provide and information about these children?
I assume you are aware that not only did John William remarry at age 51 but following her death less than two years after they married he married a third time.
