Shuff for keeping his Grand Daughter, who is an idiot and a cripple. IBID.: p. 194 [numbered 192]: Ordered James Orr allowed $10 for benefit of Mrs. Harris for keaping an ediot child and that the clerk furnish him an order to the sheriff, Aug 25th 1850... ///Meeting of Monday, 23rd Sep 1850. ...January 27, 1851: I have given an order on sheriff for $10 for benefit of Samuel Shuff for purpose of keaping his Ediot daughter which was neglected in the list given to the sheriff. Shuff allowed $20 to aid in support of himself and Elizabeth Shuff, his grand daughter, who is an Ediott; to be applied by Sharlottee Shuff... IBID.: p. 225 [numbered 223]: Meeting of 1st day April[e] 1854: ...p. 226... Ord. Samuel Shuff allowed $10 to aid in his support & Elizabeth [blank], $10 to aid in her support; to be applied by Sharlottee Shuff... Numerous mentions continue. Note that after about 1855, Charlotte Shuff is the one who receives the support money. Samuel was likely dead by then. Elizabeth Shuff receives support until at least 1861. In 1862, Robert Perdue is provided money for support of Charlotte Shuff. James and D. C. Shuff appear on the 1884 PPTL, Upper Dist., WCV. David and Jas. A. appear in WCV PPTL, 1888, Upper. In 1894 PPTL, Saltville Dist., David A. is listed as a resident of “The River Hills”; James A. is also listed from “The River Hills” but in the list of “coloured inhabitants”. From T. Colley: another child of Florence Shuff = David E. Shuff (c1854- ) m. 24 Dec 1878 WCV Barbara R. Forbus (c1861- ), d/o George W. & Malinda Forbus.
