A biography/family history of Justin C. Simpkins, MD, Glasgow, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 1008 & 1009. Justin was born, 26 Jun 1859, son of Dr. Robert J. and Margaret (Gilbert) Simpkins. Children: Dr. Justin C. (Glasgow, MT); Lizzie C.
Dr. Justin Simpkins graduated, at age 23, from Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN, and Indiana Medical College, Indianapolis, IN, in 1886. He practiced medicine in Marshfield and Boswell, IN, and did postgraduate work at Chicago, IL. He graduated from Chicago Polyclinic in 1904. When Dr. Simpkins left Boswell, IN, he established a practice in Danville, IL. After leaving Danville, IL, he homesteaded near Granville, ND, and continued his practice. He left ND to go to NV to improve his health and engaged in mining and prospecting for two years. He sold his claims for a good profit and moved to Valley county, MT, where he served as health officer for three years.
In June 1884, Warren county, IN, Justin married Miss Alice Van Houton, born Sept. 1861, the only child of Richard and Hulda (Steadman) Van Houton. Simpkins children: Rupert R. (McComb, IL); Albert (Minot, ND); Mrs. Mabel Fairman (Glasgow, MT); Mrs. Frances Estes (Valejo, CA); Madeline (San Francisco, CA). Alice (Van Houton) Simpkins died at Valejo, CA, in 1918.
