Mark - a lot of family members have sent me references from a book called "Descendants of Elder John Lawrence of Southwest Virginia and New England". It is written by Ora Belle McColman from VA. Apparently in this book it states that Robert Simpkins and Macey Lawrence moved to Virginia after the revolution. I am not sure about the tie in to James but I have been given him as the father from many people. Hope this helps.
