The idea is that if you are a male with an unbroken line of Sides descent, by taking the DNA test and then matching it up as others take it as well, you can determine for certain common ancestors. I've been involved as an attentive witness to a couple of other DNA projects that involve the Bates and the Witt/Whitt surname and it has been, in some cases surprising to see what has been learned. For example, one family was shown NOT to have the common ancestor they thought, another family which was *parentless* was shown to be directly related to another branch as brothers in same family and in another case, an unproven tradition was proven to be true-that certain men thought to be brothers were, actually.
So it's very interesting. I'm just starting this and would like to hear from at least six people right away to start getting some baselines. I am particularly interested in the branches that were in Anson County, NC in 1790, and would also like to know of the PA Sides. I plan, as well, to include the surnames Sides/Seitz/Sites, Scites, and any other similar variation as we all know that these names were used interchangeably on census records, thus do not want to rule anyone out.
