Margaret Sloan b 1703 d 1769 buried at Steel Creek, came to America as a widow with 6 sons and 1 daughter, as legend goes. Son Robert b ca 1750 d 20 Jun 1780 at the Battle of Ramsour's Mill and is buried on the field. His wife, Margaret Shipley, filed the estate papers with the aid of John Sloan. This John Sloan also assisted in the filing of the estate of James Sloan in 1769. John's will dated 18 Mar 1806 lists nephews John Sloan, son of Robert, nephews William Bigham, son of Nancy Sloan (d/o Margaret & sister of Robert) and William Bigham of Lincoln Co., and Ambrose McKee Beaty and Thomas Woods Beaty (s/o Joseph Beaty of Tenn.) Margaret's will dated 09 May 1814, lists William Bigham (nephew), Peggy Bigham & Nancy (d's/o Nancy and William), Mary Bigham( wife of Wm. the nephew), sisters Rachel Whitside, Sarah Bigham, Jane Nelson. also she left things to Sally Corum, Mary McCorkle, Margeret Patterson, Sally A. Sloan, Ruth Sloan, Margaret McKee & sister-in-law Ann Sloan. Thus Robert and John were brothers and sons of Margaret. How does James d 1769 fit? Who are these other Sloans mentioned in the wills?
