George W. Slonaker (b. 1846)lived to be over 100 years old and was the last surviving Confederate soldier in Hampshire Co. He has been honored at his gravesite in Parks Hollow during Hampshire Heritage Days held each fall. He was a member of Company F, C.S.A, served about one year, then was taken prisoner. He spent three months at Camp Chase and twenty months at Fort Delaware. Children of George W. and Almira Oglesbee Slonaker: James A. Slonaker Ancestry of George W. Slonaker: Christopher Slonaker (Schlonecker), "the First," came from Holland and served in the American Revolutionary War. Christopher, the First, married Ellen Nole, and they settled on Timber Ridge in what is now Hampshire Co., West Va. Children of Christopher, the First, and Ellen Nole Slonaker: Katie, m. George Oats When George and Nancy Merchant Slonaker moved to Ohio, it appears that their son George H. remained in Virginia (now W. Va.). George H. Slonaker married Leah -------.
