Snipes history in Chatham Co., N.C.

The Snipes family left England for the Barbados Islands, thence to Charleston, from where they came into Chatham County before the Revolution. William and his wife, Sarah Pinckney, were the pioneers in the county, settling near what is now Cedar Grove Church in Baldwin Township. William fought in the Revolution. Their six children made marriages in the Lindsay, Bynum, Williams, Lacey and Hatch families. Marriages in subsequent generations have connected them with the Norwood, Edwards, Sandford, Clegg, Burnett and Wilkinson families.
