William's parents were James Franklin Snipes, b. abt 1842 and Sarah Ann Elizabeth Haire, b. Aug 1844. His father may have been Robert Snipes, b. 1795 also b. in SC. I also have more information on Sarah A. E. Haire's family. The Snipes name probably came from Anglo-Saxon "Snaepe" (several spellings) which referred to boggy land.
