Sorey Family Genealogy Forum

I really know nothing more than what appears in the deeds and wills recorded in Princess Anne Co (now Virginia Beach) and Norfolk County ( now Chesapeake ). This family appears to have lived in the Blackwater section of Princess Anne boardering on Norfolk Co and very close to North Carolina. From the early to mid 1700s thru the early 1800s there appear to be many connections between these Soreys( in PA Co and Norf Co) and other families named Butts, Woodard, and Williams ( which are very common names in PA Co, Norf Co and Eastern NC). But I have been wholy unable to establish the identities of the wives of Francis d1753, William d1784 or William d1812. My line ties in to Margarett ( dau of William d1812 ) and her 2 husband James Williams, whose dau Susan married in 1835 John Fentress (aka Captain John Fentress bn1806 dec 1885). This John Fentress is my gggrandfather. Please tell me where I can find information regarding Mary Grieve being the wife of William dec 1784. I cannot go back any farther with any certainty for the Soreys than Francis. It appears that he may have moved or immigrated to Princess Anne Co or, possibly, earlier generations may have spelled the name differently- I have seen early Virginia records which mention the names Soary,Soare, Sorrell, Sorsby, Sowrsby, etc which may hold some clues. In any event I have not been able to tie Francis with any land transactions which would disclose his parentage
In so far as graves and tombstones, I do not know of the location of any cemetaries for the Soreys I have mentioned. Unlike much of Virginia Beach, the Blackwater section is largely undeveloped and remains in farmland,so it is possible that a family graveyard may remain, undisturbed. I do not know if the Baptist Church with which Rev William was affiliated is still in existance. If so he and other family members could well be burried there. I will attempt to find out and will get back with you.
Please, again, give me what information you have on the identity of Mary Grieve as being the mother of Rev William Sorey. I am very curious about that connection. There is a town in Tuscany, Italy named Grieve.
