We've talked about Vincent's Crossroads before. This is where the First Alabama Cavalry USA was beaten in battle on Oct. 26, 1863. I'm wondering whether anyone has ever located the site of the fighting? Here are some clues: It was west of the present site of Red Bay, Alabama, and near Bay Springs, Mississippi. It was in fairly close proximity to the McRae Plantation. It was about two miles from Patterson's store. The actual fighting started on a north-side road with woods on both sides. Then as the First Alabama Cav. retreated, there was a plowed field on the east side of the road. And in the middle of this field was a house owned by the Widow Clark. Further south was a stream and some swampland. I'd like to get over there with a metal detector and find a minie ball that was fired by my g-grandfather or one of your ancestors.
