18th infantry kentucky

I'm looking for info on a Stephen Cameron who enlisted in Company 1, 18th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 08 Feb1862. He was killed at the Battle of Richmond KY in 1862. He was Union.

1)Why do they show enlisted as a Corporal on 08 Oct 1861 then also show enlisted in Company 1, etc. Why enlist twice?

2)How can I get more info such as birth date, wife's name, where buried, anything to help me determine if he's my husband's ggrandfather?

Any suggestions would be appreciated
