Brig. Gen. Samuel R. Curtis commanded the Union Army of the Southwest at Pea Ridge (Elkhorn Tavern).

There was also a 2nd Lt. Samuel P. Curtis in the 16th Kansas Cavalry, but I don't think they operated in Arkansas.
