Yes, several of the Union states have monuments (Vermont, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, etc) but Tennessee is the only southern state with a monument to its Union soldiers. The Tennessee monument was privately financed by Tennessee Union soldiers, however, and not by the state of Tennessee. The text on the Tennessee monument says "In memory of her Union soldiers and loyal sons who died in Confederate prisons during the war of 1861-65. We who live may for ourselves forget but not for those who died here. 1284 died Tennessee.
