Most of the Spath/Spaeth/Spadt families have ancestors that come from Wuerttemberg Germany. A small handfull came from Hesse-Nassau. I was trying to figure our how your ancestors wound up in Russia, and how mine got grom Wuerttemberg to Hess Nassau. I found this website http://members.aol.com/RAToepfer/webdoc7x.htm that discusses the 30 years war and the factors that effected migration of Germans to America and Russia and other parts of Europe. You probably already know this but I found it fascinating.
