My husband's gr,gr,gr,grandfather was Samuel Speed of Staffordshire and then Yorkshire.
According to certificates and family information -
he was married twice. His first marriage ( 20 Jul 1840)was to Caroline Randle b. abt. 1821.
They had four children that I know of - Mary Ann (7 Apr 1843), Elizabeth (1846), Caroline (1847) and Sarah (1851). I need to get Sarah's birth certificate to make sure to which wife she was actually born!
Caroline died 22 Nov 1852 of consumption and Samuel then married Mary (Mira, Myra) - last name perhaps Aston. She brought at least one son to the marriage - Paul Aston. They had a daughter Phoebe Jane Speed (23 Dec 1854).
Mary Ann married John Stokes and they immigrated to the United States in 1885 where they settled in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. This couple had eight children, most of whom had a few children each. There are many descendants still in the Pennsylvania area and many scattered throughout the USA.
