Stanyon genealogy - anywhere, any date

My mother's maiden name was Stanyon. She had been told that the family originally came to England from continental Europe due to religious persecution. I have searched back to my gt gt gt gt grandfather Robert Stanyon, a shoemaker living in Sawtry, Huntingdonshire in the early 1800s, but would need to search back at least to 1700 to prove the story. I would like to hear from anyone searching for Stanyons anywhere, to share info. Thank you
