Hello Gerald,
There are 12 William F. Hodges listed in the Social Security Death Index. Of these, only 4 could be an "older" brother of Mary.
Go to http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com and enter William's name, including middle initial. Choose which William should be Mary's brother and click on that person's SS-5 letter under the tools column. By mailing this request, you will get information about where he lived, parent's name, birth place and date along with where he worked when he applied for his Social Security card. You could try to track the family down using that information.
Or you could use the information shown on the line for your William, go to an old city directory for the city where his last social security check was cashed and see what you find.
