Philip R. Stillman Sr., of Westerly and Phoenix, Ariz., died July 24, 2008, in Westerly. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia Stillman; two daughters, Patricia Stillman of Phoenix and Barbara Stillman of Westerly; two sons, Philip R. Stillman Jr. and Thomas Stillman, both of Westerly; and five grandchildren, Kelley Stillman, Eric Serdechny. Dillon Serdechny, Philip R Stillman III and Taylor Entwistle. Born in Westerly in 1926, he was the last surviving sibling of the 11 children of Carrie and Raymond Stillman. His siblings' names were Laverne, Douglas, Robert, Richard, Raymond, Fredrick, James, Ronnie, Catherine, and Jeanette. Philip joined the U.S. Navy in April 1944 and served as a Seabee in World War II. After being discharged from the service, he worked in the construction trade for Jake Keena. Philip was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting trips with friends in Jackman, Maine. He received a 50-year plaque from the Misquamicut Fire Department for his many years of service as a volunteer fireman. Calling hours in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral and burial will be private.
