STONEY of Hilton Head, SC, 1700/1800's

On a recent trip to Hilton Head Island, SC I visited the oldest cemetery on the island which has an historic marker by the state of SC which reads:

A Chapel of St. Luke’s Parish, established May 23, 1767, built of wood shortly after 1786 under the direction of Captain John STONEY and Isaac Fripp, was consecrated in 1833. Members of the Barksdale, Baynard, Chaplin, Davant, Fripp, Kirk, Mathews, Pope, STONEY, and Webb families worshipped here.
By 1868 the chapel was destroyed."

It is a small cemetery and I read every single marker looking for any BARKSDALE names, which is a line I am researching. While there were many Davants, Kirks, Webbs, and a huge sealed mausoleum with "Baynard" etched over the door, alas, I did not find a single Barksdale. Since many of these early families inter-married, I am hoping some of the SC STONEY descendants might know of these early Barksdales as well. My Barksdales were from VA and NC and later GA, so am hoping the SC Barksdales might be a link. Any information, however small, would be appreciated.

I did take a photo of the historic marker for anyone who might be interested. I can send it to you as a jpg.
