Suhan is a name still in Slovakia and it is pronounced like Shu-han. My grandmother had this last name and she came from old Austria-Hungary to Ohio in 1911 or 1912. The name Suhan seems to be in many places in teh Moslem world in websites. Roman Suhan of Kiev, Ukraine is a university student and his uncle told him that Suhan means "Water King" in Arabic. I talked to a guy online in Cairo, Egypt and he had a good customer named Suhan. My grandmother had very almond shaped eyes and my guess is that Suhan originated in Mongolia or another area of China and they came west on the Silk Route through Uzbekistan and to Istanbul with some going to Arab countries and others to East and Central Europe. I have a book from the village of Polomka in central Slovakia where my grandmother came from and the last name Suhan was not in the book in 1572 but it was listed in the census in the mid 1600's. I checked Slovak history to see who invaded their country between these dates and I found that the Tatars, Turks and Russians came together in 1599. I think this is where a Turkish Suhan came to Slovakia and the same situation was true for my grandfather's last name, Maruskin, which is more popular in Russia and is not a Slovak name. I told you all I know, But there could be something I forgot.
