Hi Elizabeth,
I recently read in a publication called "The Story Of Federal Crick" that Kilvert got it's name from a family that operated a coal mine there for many years. No specific date was given. Kilvert is now probably over 200 years old. Kilvert was known as "Tablertown" in the early days of the 1830's due to my decsendant Michael Tabler who came from a wealthy German slave owning family. He and his sons born of a slave settled there buying up much of the land around Federal Creek, which they say was a forunner to Kilvert. Kilvert became a railroad center and coal mining town. The railroad drew in many Irish immigrants. In 1937 a tornado nearly wiped the dot of Kilvert off the map. There were/are Indian mounds in the area as my mother recalls from her youth, she now forgets how to get to them, but thinks they a near Guysville or Stewart, which are all very near Kilvert. That's all I know for now. Hope it helps. Susan
