Hi Jody, I have taken an interest in the Tacey message board for some time now and having read your input it is, only my opinion, that you may be partially correct.Tessier may indeed have French or Swiss origins which over the years was corrupted to Tessi, Tacy or Tacey. Not unusual in parts of Canada and the States where French sounding names were often changed for one's own safety and the Anglised version may have been wise to use.I refer to the Anglised version because my own research leads me to believe that the name Tacey is indeed Irish in origin coming from County Wexford in Eire.It may well be a corruption of Stacey. From Wexford they came across the water to the UK and settled in Norfolk,Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. Its always been understood that the Tacey's to which I am related came from Ireland and were horse traders and Teamsters. From Ireland they settled in the Fens area.My side of the family moved to Yorkshire in the UK and settled in the Barnsley area before moving to Wyke near Bradford. You will also find Tacey in Scotland but again it is likely that these family's are of Irish origin due to the close connections between the two countries.Tacey/Tacy should not be connected with the name Tais that is also found in Scotland.Best wishes.Dougall.
