Dear Hilary,

My name is Brian White and I'm a grandson of the late Walter Warder who wrote the history of Lion's Head - Between You and Me and the Gatepost. Walter was the son of a pioneer, Eli Warder who settled in Ferndale in the mid 1870's. In this book he mentions that the Tackaberrys were the earliest people in the Lion's Head/Eastnor area. I have been trying to sort out in my mind this very interesting family especially as I live near Brockville and there is a high concentration of Tackaberrys close by (In Leeds Township) which I suspect is the origin of the Lion's Head/Eastnor Township Tackaberrys - after they came from Ireland.

The earliest Tackaberrys seemed to have been Richard and Nathanel (not sure I understand their relationship but I guess they were Father and son. Richard being the grown Son of Nathanel). I also suspect from your post that Richard was your great-great-grandfather, Jenny Carters father. I think I have seen a picture taken outside the large stone house of Jenny's wedding and the two families shown (In my Uncle Maitland Warder's (Walter's son) book) One thing has always puzzled me. Only Richard's name shows up on the assessment in about 1872 for United Townships of Eastnor-Lindsay-St. Edmunds, was Nathanel no longer in the area? In the definitive history of Bruce County by Norman Robertson, Robertson refers to Nathanel's farm/home as Tackaberry's corners the hub of Eastnor township on the highest point of land in the area, what became a gravel pit to the southwest of Lion's Head. Is there anyone who has done a family tree for the Lion's Head Tackaberrys? I would find such a document very interesting and very helpful as I enjoy history and so much of the early history of Lion's Head, my home town, revolves around early families like the Tackaberrys.

I can be contacted at brwhite@ripnet.com.

Kind regards,

Brian C. White
