I will send you the particulars via your email. But you can get basic information by going to Family Tree DNA's webpage which is www.ftdna.com - I seem to remember that there is a FAQ page.

They now do three different sorts of genetic genealogy tests: (1) yDNA (to trace the paternal line since yDNA is passed from father to son unchanged for many generations); (2) mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA which is passed from a mother to her children but ONLY her daughters can pass it on - this would be a direct line maternal ancestry from your mother); (3) Family Finder (which tests a wide range of chromosomes on the entire DNA molecule and with which you find matches with your entire ancestry. Descendants of all your great, great aunts and uncles. It is not gender specific)

I imagine at this point you would be most interested in yDNA to see which Tannehills you might match. (Hopefully it will be with the other Logan County, Kentucky descendant!!)
