Richard, I have a file on Solomon Tingle, Jr., but can't find it right now because I recently had it out. Following is from memory as best I can recall. Solomon Tingle, Jr., was on the 1850 Cherokee, Ala., census, living around Hokes Bluff, I think, with several younger people in his household. He gave his age in 1850 as 70 years, born in NC. He and his brother John went to Hancock Co, GA bet 1796 and 1800. Some of Solomon Jr's descendants say he was married about three times, first, an Indian maiden, Owassa. Perhaps her maiden name was Maddox. The second source you referred to is in Jasper County, GA, county history. The book does not give Elizabeth's maiden name but a person reported she saw the marriage records in Jasper County courthouse and figured her surname as "STRAIGHT." Solomon Jr received Land Grant around Stone Mountain, GA, think it's DeKalb County. (He was still in Hancock Co, GA on 1820 census.) His oldest son, Thomas Jefferson Tingle was born in 1813; then there were several other sons following. Thomas went to Paulding Co, GA; later to Winston and Walker Co, ALA. Large family. Your Jessie S. was perhaps half-brother of Thomas J.? I've seen someplace a reference to "orphans of Solomon Tingle" in Jasper Co, GA. Sorry to be vague but this is from recall. Can you please give your documentation for our connection to Hugh Tingle in Lincolnshire, England? Hope I haven't muddied the subject for you. A 4th great-granddaughter of Solomon Tingle, Sr. My guess is Solomon Jr died before the 1860 census but I haven't seen any documentation on his death.
