I'm from sheffield also, and my fathers family come from Ecclesfield in Sheffield. I understand that there is a large number of tingles from this area of town and they can be traced back pretty far. The records of Tingles born / married / died at Ecclesfield Church are meant to go back pretty far.
I understood the origin of tingle was a maker of nails also. I haven't managed to trace my family tree back at all yet, (due to a forgetful grandmother) but I hope this helps. Good luck in your quest for information.
