I was also a Billy Tingle boy. I do not recall him doing any of the training when I was there. This was in about 1969 to 1973.
I do recall seeing and meeting him briefly on May Road, near the LRC. He was walking with a stick and looking elderly. This was about 1977 to 1980, at the latest. I have seen it written on another web site that he got an MBE in 1986. If he did, then obviously the suggestion that he passed away in the late seventies is unlikely! He would have been very elderly by 1986.
Saturday mornings were much enlivened by his sports games and he did make a good contribution to health and sport. I also remember there was a high standard of fair play.
