The Shelton Family lived in several counties during the early 1800's. Anderson, Knox Grainger ect. I am especially interested in learning the names of the parents and siblings of Joseph Shelton born October 1826 in what was at that time Grainger County. He married Permelia Merritt in Knoxville in 1849. In 1856 this couple and her parents Edward and Elizabeth Merritt move to Kansas. A boy named Hezekiah Merritt accompanied them. It is unknown if he was the son of Edward, or maybe a love child of Permelia. She also used the nickname Amelia. For some reason Joseph did not tell anyone of his parentage. Even his son stated on Joseph's death certificate that he did not know the parents names.
