Looking for parents of John Howard MANNING b. TN who was listed on page 800 of the 1850 census for Bledsoe co. TN as age 25. At this time he was mar. to Mariah MATTHEW age 17 daughter of Martha WALKER and James MATTHEW. Listed next door is Mary MANNING age 85 and Ann MANING age 43. On the previous page(799) was Matilda MANNING age 37 and her children which included: Daniel age 21, Lucretta age 16, Elizabeth age 12, Robert age 9 and Samuel age 5. No other Mannings are listed...no husbands for Mary and Ann or Matilda. From the ages of these adult women, I am assuming that Ann is John's mother, Mary is his grandmother and that Matilda is his aunt. Who was the father of John H. MANING? On some Deeds for 1837 Bledsoe co. I find mention of Charles I.MANING and James E. MANING. What happened to this Charles and James MANNING? Was one of these men the father of John H. ? I have not found John H. MANING and family in 1860. He supposedly died during the war. By 1870 his widow Mariah is married to Jesse BERTRAM in Wayne co. KY. MANING children listed with Mariah and her new husband were : Mary Jane MANING age 19, Martha age 17, Elizabeth age 14, John H. jr. age 11 and James MANING age 7. Any help greatly appreciated.
