On the 1880 census from District 9, Bledsoe, TN there is a John Stewart, 41, TN TN TN living with Mary Mith, 40, TN TN TN and 8 Smith children ranging in age from 18 to 2.
Is there any way to find out more about this family? My gr-grandfather was John H. Smith and he had stated that the family name was actually Stewart but if that became known there would be a lot of "trouble". The oldest child listed in the household of John Stewart and Mary Smith is John Smith at 18 he would have been the same age as my gr-grandfather at that time.
Everyone on the census list is listed as "single" and all but John Stewart who is listed as "head" everyone is listed as "other" for their relationship to head of household.
Any ideas or information would be appreciated. Thank you.
