Petition of citizens of Bledsoe County who settled in the Indian Boundary Line before it was run and who left their improvements asking that some provision be made to restore their property when the Indian title is extinguished. Among the settlers who signed the petition was a John Thomas from Roane County, TN4. 12 Jul 1808. John Thomas. In persuance of the law in such case made and provided, I have surveyed for John Thomas 162 acres of land, claimed and held by right if improvement occupancy and preemption lying and being in Bledsoe County in Sequatchy Valley on Sequatchy Creek. Joining lines with Stephen Shillgar and bounded as followeth to wit, beginning at a mulberry at ash and cherry tree and Lynn on the bank of creek corner to said Shillgar and with his line, S 51 E 230 poles to a white oak and black oak on his line then leaving said poles S 41 W 142 poles to a post oak and white oak N 52 W 190 poles to a beech and hack berry and dogwood on the bank of the creek and up the several courses of the same one hundred and forty-six poles to the beginning.
