CINCINNATI -- Elbert F. "El" Prater, 78, Cincinnati, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mr. Prater was born Aug. 26, 1927 in LaFollette, Tennessee, the youngest child of Henry S. and Ruth Burris Prater. He joined the United States Air Force, serving in WW 11, the Korean Conflict and 2 tours in Vietnam, retiring as a Master Sergeant in Salina, Kansas in 1973. He worked for civil service at the Smokey Hill Bombing Range, Salina, and Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City. He also worked for the Salina Parks and Recreation Department until 2003. He was a lifetime member of the Salina V.F.W. Post #1432 & the Salina D.A.V.

He was preceded in death by; his wife Anita, 2003; a son, Raymond, 1958 ; and a granddaughter, Katie Hess, 2004; his parents; a sister, Alma; and two brothers, Willis and Homer.

Survivors include two daughters; Margaret Kugler and spouse Doug, Abilene, Kansas; Barbara Danielson and spouse Mike, Choctaw, Oklahoma; two sons; Henry F., Salina, Kansas; and Richard J., New York, New York; three grandchildren; Lara Nichols and spouse John, Pocatello, Idaho; Braton and Zane Danielson, Choctaw, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren; Claudia Hess, Abilene, Kansas; Grace and Ted Nichols, Pocatello, Idaho; one brother,Wade, Loveland, Ohio; and one sister, Hazel Vinsant, Knoxville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at Staley-Crowe Funeral Home, 7140 Plainfield Road, Deer Park, Ohio.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina, with military honors by McConnell Air Force Base.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Salina Disabled American Veterans or Salina VFW Post 1432.
