I found an odd death certificate and hope someone familiar with the families involved can help me sort this out. A little girl named Nanny Fusten Reed died in Whitley Co., KY in 1912. She was only 7 months old and was born in Jellico, TN. Her father was John Reed. Her mother's name was Martha but her maiden name or surname was apparently unknown to the informant. Sil Fusten of Jellico, TN was the informant. Since little Nanny's middle name was Fusten I assume she was related to Sil in some way. Ordinarily I would think the mother's maiden name might be Fusten. But, if so, why didn't Sil Fusten know that? I am not aware of any Fustens in the Reed family, which is one of my lines, but I could be mistaken about that. Is anyone familiar with the Fusten (or Fuston) and Reed families and any possible relationship? Does anyone know who Nanny's mother, Martha, was?
