Would like if possible to find out details about an infant drowning that took place in Woodbury TN. Between 1889-1893
The family story passed down from my Great Grandpa William Pitts was that his first marriage was to a girl named Laura Young (misspelled Yancey in Cannon Co. marriage book) in Cannon co. and that soon after the birth of their first child, his wife drowned the baby in a rainbarrel and that he was nearly hung for the murder of his baby until his wife confessed to doing it herself.
William Pitts and Laura Young were married in Cannon co. TN. in November of 1889 by William B. Stone. William pitts remarried in 1893 to Della Thomas, daughter of William Thoamas and Catherine Elkins. William and Della moved to Union Co. IL. about 1900 where they lived the remainder of their lives.
I believe Laura Young may be Mary Laura Young daughter of
James Young and Martha Preston of Cannon Co. (Dist 7 on 1880 Census) Don't know this for certain.
This is not to dig up trash on anyones family members. Every family has had tragedy of one type or another and every family has had it's own crazy members. I would just like to find out what may have motivated laura Young to do this ?
