Looking for parentage of William (W.W.B.) Langley born Apr 1813 TN. There is a Jane Langley listed as head of household in the 1830 Census of Weakley County with two males 15-20 yrs of age. I believe these two males may be my William (W.W.B.) and a brother named Joel. Jane is listed as 40-50 yrs old. There is some evidence that her husband may have been John or Jonathan who was living in 1828 in Weakley Co., TN, but deceased by the 1830 census. Is this the same John Langley and Jane Smith who married Oct 1801 Randolph Co., NC? The 1880 Census for William (W.W.B.) Langley lists that his parents were both born NC.

Also in this 1830 Census is listed a Leonard "Langly" who is 20-30 and head of another house in Weakley Co., TN. This Leonard may be an older son of Jane's.

William (W.W.B.) Langley is next found to have married in Gibson County, TN 16 July 1831 to America "Merica" Hawkins.

In the 1840 and 1850 census' W.W.B. and America lived in Carroll Co., TN. William and America are found with 9 children on the 1850 census. W.W.B.'s wife America died after 1850, but before 1854 after yet another child is born.

By the 1860 Census of Weakley County, W.W.B. is married to his second wife, Sallie (Unknown) and they have at least 4 more children together. Sallie (Unknown) died after 1860, but before Aug 1861.

W.W.B. marries again in Aug of 1861 in Weakley County, TN, but Amanda dies 1862-1863 probably in childbirth.

Yep, you guessed it. W.W.B. marries again in Weakley County, TN June 1864 to Sarah (Stout) Roberson/Robinson. W.W.B. and Sarah have 7 more children together.

His last two wives were 27 yrs younger than he and those two wives were younger than a few of his older children, so this is all entirely possible.

W.W.B. and his last wife are buried in Wright Cemetery in Weakley Co., TN. W.W.B died in Oct 1881 just before the birth of his last child in Dec 1881. Sarah (Stout) died 1916.

He fathered 22 children in all that I know of and all born either Carroll or Weakley Co., TN between 1832 and 1881.

1. John b 1832
2. Nancy b 1834
3. Jane b 1835
4. Harvey Columbus b 1838
5. Dicalous? (male) b 1839
6. Hiram b 1841
7. Riley b 1844
8. America b 1845
9. Rachel b 1848
10. Mary b 1850
11. Margaret J. b 1854
12. Jonathan A. b 1857
13. Mary C. b 1860
14. Wade H. b 1860 possible twins
15. James L. b 1862
16. Martha b 1866
17. Eliza A. b 1867
18. Abraham b 1868
19. Alsy (female) b 1870
20. Henry A. b 1872
21. George C. b 1877
22. Eugene b 1881

I have not researched all of these children, but have heard that some of them may have gone on to Missouri or elsewhere.

I am descended from Martha b 1866 who married George Griffin.

Thank-You,
LuAnn
