Michael Hyder was elected treasurer of the "Buffolow" Creek Church in 1834. Almost all of my maternal ancestor surnames are mentioned in the Sinking Creek or Buffalo Creek Baptist Histories. The Gourleys were associated with the State of Franklin, so they've been in TN a LONG time. I'll keep looking for your Thomas Elisha. I did notice that some of the earlier Hyders spelled their name "Hieter". According to info online, they were from the MD-PA area as were a lot of other Watauga Area Settlers.
