ROBERTS or VANDEGRIFF in early Carter Co.

I am looking for any information on a William ROBERTS who lived in Washington Co. in that part that became Carter Co. when Tennessee beacame a state.

William's wife is Ann VANDERGRIFF (d/o Jacob and Sarah VANDERGRIFF both died Anderson Co. 1828), after their marriage in Wilkes Co., NC in 1784 they soon apparently followed Ann's family to Washington Co., NC/Carter Co. TN. I found a listing for a 1796 Carter Co. court case listing Jacob (Sr), Jacob (Jr) and Garret VANDERGRIFF. (Jacob (Sr) should be Ann's father, Jacob (Jr) is a known son. Jacob (Sr) did have a son named Garret but this might be too young for him)

According to William ROBERTS Rev. War pension (#S17054), he was in Grainger Co. by about 1801, I can confirm he was there with some of the VANDERGRIFFs by 1808.

Any information on the VANDERGRIFFs or ROBERTS of very early Carter Co. would be appreciated.

Dan (4g-grandson of William ROBERTS and Ann VANDERGRIFF)
