In Claiborne County TN Deed Book K, p. 176, is an 1832 indenture between "Samuel Tate of Bibb County, Alabama, John Tate and Robert Tate of the County of McMinn and state of Tennessee on the one part" and Samuel Sowder on the other part. The Tates are transferring a piece of land to Sowder that had been inherited by John and Robert Tate from their deceased father John Tate.
No explanation is made why Samuel Tate is involved or what his relationship is. However Samuel Tate is my direct ancestor and there is some indication that he may be a son of the deceased John Tate since John legitimzed his children Samuel Tate and Dorcas Tate Simpson (she was then married) in Overton County TN in September 1816. Unfortunately there seems to be some confusing evidence that indicates John's legitimzed son Samuel died before 27 Jan 1818 in Overton County.
I would very much appreciate any help anyone can give me. There may be a second legal document issued at the time of the land sale in 1832 which indicates the legal relationship between Samuel Tate and John and Robert Tate and explains why Samuel has a right to take part in the sale.
