I have seen a lot of conflicting information on the parents of Jacob R Cupp b abt 1848 Claiborne Co, TN who married Sarah Catherine Miracle b 1844 Harlan Co KY. Some believe that Jacob R Cupp who married Sarah Catherine Miracle is the son of Ransom Cupp b 1817 TN and Sarah Lynch b abt 1820 VA.. Others believe he is the son of Daniel Perry Cupp b abt 1825 Claiborne Co TN and Nancy Elizabeth Parker b abt 1827. According to the censuses, both Daniel and Ransom had sons named Jacob. Ransom's son Jacob first shows up in the 1850 Claiborne Co TN census at the age of 2. Daniel' son Jacob doesn't show up until the 1860 census at the age of 9. Ransom's son shows up again in the 1860 census at the age of 12. I am only able to find one Jacob Cupp in the 1870 census and he appears in the 1870 Josh Bell Co KY census married to Sarah Catherine Miracle. His age in the 1870 census is consistent with the age of Ransom's son. However, Daniel Perry Cupp moved to adjoining Whitley Co KY in the late 1860s and can be found there in the 1870 Whitley Co KY census. I can find the two Jacob Cupps in the 1880 census. There is the Jacob Cupp (age 26) who married Melinda Catherine Ailes living very near Ransom Cupp and his second wife Catherine Vance, and there is the Jacob Cupp who married Sarah Catherine Miracle in Bell Co KY. Additionally, the Jacob Cupp who married Malinda Catherine Ailes who lived near Ransom named one of his sons Ransom...and the one who married Sarah Catherine Miracle and lived closer to Daniel Perry Cupp named one of his sons Daniel P and his first child Nancy...could these two children be named after his parents Daniel Perry Cupp and Nancy Elizabeth Parker or just coincidence? Has anyone been able to find definitive information as to which Jacob is which? Or any additional info that would help? Any information is much appreciated.
