Jes' wundrin' how meny yurs has ta pass 'fore all's fergivn between us two Brooks' groups!

Just joking! WE NEED HELP! Maybe from the Stokelys, the Blanchards, Huffs and other related families.

Some of us are in the dark and "The Other Brooks" may just have the story we'd all like to know. PLEASE SHARE!

William C. Brooks (not wholly sure of the "C") b. 1781 NC (according to the 1850 Cocke Co, TN census). Does anyone know WHERE in NC? We have several suspicions, but none confirmed.

We KNOW that a previous generation lived and died in Mitchell Co, NC on Cane Creek. This is fairly close to Cocke Co, so I suspect Wm could possibly have been born there. I also know that later generations had strong ties with the Messers from Haywood Co. So, I'm leaning toward far western NC as the birthplace for William. However, I've also recently run across a few references that a William Brooks had several children, Wm C. being one of them. Is this OUR William C. Brooks? Haven't researched enough to know yet. Other posts I have viewed suggest more eastern counties such as Stokes, Warren, and others.

It is said that William md. Sarah Black. which William? don't know. The 1830 census for Cocke Co, TN shows William Brooks, 50-60, living next door to Reuben Black, Sr. and Reuben Black, Jr. Coincidence? If anyone knows, please, please share. The 1840 census shows Wm still 50-60. I suppose the date of the census COULD create such a situation.

It is being speculated that William, b. 1781 NC(according to 1850 Cocke Co, TN) had two families, each of which contained at least one child named William - not sure of how many if any other children bore the same first name, too. That census shows William living with three males (thought to be by 2nd wife, Rachel), Wright, 30, William 20, and James 17 along with Judy Turner, 39 TN and apparently her son, Elijah Turner,12 TN. Since Judy Turner is listed later in the listing after Wright, Wm, and James, it's hard to know whether or not she's his daughter (most likely by Sarah). Elijah is a known Brooks family name, so Elijah may be William's grandson.

The first family of William Brooks is believed to be by wife Sarah. There is only one Sarah Brooks in Cocke Co, TN found in the 1860 census. I have not found her in the 1850 census. She is living with James which possibly is William's son (by 2nd wife, Rachel) as shown in the 1850 census. Judy Brooks, age 47, SC is listed in the 1860 census, too, with James and his wife. Is this Judy the same as is listed in the 1850 census living with William and 3 sons?

IF James is Wm's son by Rachel, why would Sarah be living with him? OR could that James be Judy's son. You know - they all named their children the same names OVER AND OVER!

IF Rachel is Wm's 2nd wife, does anyone know when and where they married?
IF Rachel Brooks was his wife, b. SC somewhere between 1796 and 1803 (1860 census shows her 64 living with William WILLIAMS and wife, Mary; 1850 shows her as 37 SC living with William Jr. b. 1830), did they marry in SC and come to TN around 1830? That is the earliest census I have found Wm Brooks in TN. It also coincides with the year in which George, Wm's oldest son??, rec'd a land grant in Cocke Co. TN. I descend from George, thru son, George W. md. Elizabeth Jane Shell, son James David md. Lora Hoglen.

IF anyone has any info please share!
