Thank you so very much for that story. No, I had not heard this before and am most glad to know this family story. I will share it with my fellow Brooks researchers.

If I might impose upon your kindness a little further....

Do you know where the original connection between the Brooks and Stokely's began? We have identified Royal as a family name but I'm not sure of it's earliest use in the Brooks family. We are presently involved with the Brooks family DNA research on FTDNA, but don't have anything concrete behind our William C. Brooks b 1781 NC.

Might you possibly have anything to offer regarding the Brooks/Stokely origins?
