I looked up Case in the Tennesseans in the Civil War and found no record of a Charles or Chas Case. I had a similar problem my GGfather as he was known as Newton but formal name William Newton (and enlisted as W.N.). Here are the first names of all the confederate Case's that fought for a TN unit.

Andrew P., Irvin, Isaac L. Isasc Y.,Jacob, Jacob, Jesse L., John H., T.L., William, William, William, W.M.

I hope this helps
