Hi Kim! Don't fret, we'll find him. I stem from a Laxton & Younacha branch too and man oh man are they a tough bunch to track down (Charles' big brother James is my line) but I love a good challenge. I've earned my belt in Civil War records after dealing with a similar situation on a different branch. However, that was a Union issue and the Southern Confederate records are sadly, a bit lacking. But no matter. I started to go about this the way you would for Union soldiers but they work off of pension numbers and such (only some Confederates widows received pensions through state agencies, not federal). So just to see what would happen I went straight to this site (National Archives records ordering): https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe?SWENeedContext=false&SWECmd=Logoff&SWEC=21&SWEBID=-1&SWETS= Choose "paper" or "CD" and click "Add to cart". (I'm explaining but if you've already tried this to no avail, I'm sorry). Register real quick and it will take you to a page where you can enter Charles' name and any other info you may have on him. And click send! 60-90 days later (they're actually a bit faster than that) you MAY have some of his records. They DO NOT charge your card for anything unless they find something. I wish I had a name to search for myself. But alas, my Case line stems from a woman who was something of a floozy. No records. Haha. Good luck! Notify Administrator about this message?
