I understand how it is. I am having similar issues trying to track information on both my great grandmother (Nancy Miles) and my grandmother (Mary Miles). I don't know either of their maiden names. To complicate it I know my grandmother remarried to R. J. Carroll in 1926 and I have no information on her after that. It seems for every new piece of information I find, I find a dozen new unanswered questions.
I will keep your grandmothers name in mind as I dig through resources looking for information on mine... never know what might turn up.
