Berry is found in Coffee Co. from 1850 to 1891 in census and tax records. But, to find him, you'll need to check under the names of Hills, Hitts, Hilson and Hitson. In 1850 all born in TN: Berry Hilson 30, Philla 26, Thomas 7, Mary 5, Langston 4, Byram 2, George 4/12. There is also Edmond Wooters/Wooten 10 living here. 1850 also finds Berry Hitson as a slave owner with a 2 year-old female slave. In 1860 all born in TN: Berry Hills 41, Billy (Philly) 36, Thomas 17, Mary 14, Langston 12, Byrom 10, George 8, Martha 6, Margaret 2, William 1. 1870: Berry Hitts 53, Phila 44, Byram 21, George 19, Martha 13, Margaret 11, William 9, Sarah 7. Wyatt Hitts 62, Patsy 58, William 35, Lock 25 are also living in Coffee Co. 1880: Berry Hitson 66 TN NC NC, Sarah 55, Sarah 6. 1891 Berry Hitson 1900: Bedford Co., TN lists Berry Hitson 82 (May 1818) living with his daughter and son in-law, Margaret 42 (Jun 1857) and Nathan Hatchet 68(Sep 1831). Wagoner Hitson 23 (Apr 1877)is listed as Nathan's brother in-law. However, in none of the previous censuses is Wagner enumerated with Berry and his family. He is, though, found in 1880 living in Coffee Co. with his apparent parents: Lankston Hittson 38 S. Jane 40 C. Ann 10 Q. D? May 9 Phelix G. 8 David U? 6 Waggonner 4 Susan D. 2 Elizabeth 10 months Langston/Lankston married Sarah Wagner 10-7-1868 As Langston is the son (according to census records) of Berry and Philly Hitson, Wagner would have been Nathan's nephew by marriage to Langston's sister, Margaret, and not his brother in-law. Therefore, Wagner would have been Berry's grandson. Does anyone have any feedback on this? Colleen Notify Administrator about this message?
